Quick answer: Label printing on an Android terminal is not like label printing on Windows, and this is the one hardware category where we tell customers to confirm with Qashier before buying anything. On Windows any printer with a driver will print. On Android there is no equivalent universal driver layer — the POS app has to support the printer, so support is a yes-or-no question rather than a configuration exercise.

Why Android changes the compatibility question
Worth understanding, because it explains why this page is more cautious than our other guides.
On Windows, a POS application usually hands the label to the operating system's print spooler, and the manufacturer's driver turns it into whatever commands the printer understands. The application does not need to know anything about your specific printer. That is why our Nextar label printer guide can talk about page sizes and margins rather than about compatibility — almost anything with a Windows driver will work.
Android has no comparable general-purpose printer driver model for this class of device. In practice a label printer is driven in one of two ways:
- The POS app sends printer commands directly — typically TSPL, CPCL or ESC/POS — over USB or the network. This works only for command sets the app implements.
- A vendor app drives the printer, separate from the POS. Workable for ad-hoc labels, awkward if you want labels generated from POS product data.
The consequence is simple and worth stating plainly: “this printer has good drivers” is not a useful claim on Android. What matters is whether Qashier's app can drive it. That is Qashier's question to answer, not ours, and any supplier who tells you otherwise without having tested it is guessing.
Do you actually need one?
Before specifying hardware, check whether the problem is real. A label printer earns its place when:

A surprising number of small retailers buy a label printer and then discover their entire inventory already has barcodes on it. Check first.
Direct thermal or thermal transfer?
This decision outlasts the printer, because it sets your ongoing consumable cost.

For most retail and F&B in Singapore and Malaysia, direct thermal is the right economics — stock turns over in weeks and there is no ribbon to buy. But be realistic about the climate: a direct thermal label in a sunlit shopfront, or in an un-airconditioned storeroom, will fade faster than the same label in a temperate country. If a label has to stay scannable for a year, use thermal transfer. This is a genuine consideration here, not a footnote we copied from a datasheet.
Getting the label size right the first time
Three things have to agree: the physical label you buy, the size configured on the printer, and what the software expects. When they disagree you get content shifted off the label, clipped edges, or a blank label fed between each print.
The step people skip, and should not:
Print one label. Scan it with the scanner you actually use at the till. Only then order a box.
A barcode can print beautifully and scan unreliably — usually because it has been squeezed narrower than the scanner's minimum bar width. That is a problem you want to find on label three, not label three thousand. How we would approach this purchase
Since we have been candid about the uncertainty, here is the sequence we would actually recommend — it costs you nothing and removes the risk:
- Ask Qashier which label printers their app supports, and which command set it sends. Quote TSPL and ESC/POS specifically.
- Ask us for a sample unit of the model that matches their answer. One printer, not a pallet.
- Test the full loop on your own terminal: generate a label from product data, print it, scan it at the till.
- Then order the batch, and the roll size you validated in step 3.
If a supplier is unwilling to send one unit for that test, that tells you something worth knowing before a larger order.
Frequently asked questions
Which label printer is compatible with Qashier?
Qashier connects sticker and label printers over USB and Wi-Fi, and maintains its own documentation on external device compatibility. Because Android has no universal print driver layer, the authoritative answer on specific models comes from Qashier. Ask them, then test a sample.
Why can you not just tell me it works?
Because we have not validated our printers against Qashier's app ourselves, and we are not going to claim compatibility we have not tested. We would rather send you one unit to try than have a batch arrive that does not do what you needed.
Can the built-in receipt printer print labels?
No. A receipt printer uses continuous non-adhesive paper and has no gap sensor, so it cannot tell where one label ends and the next begins.
My labels print off-centre or a blank label feeds each time.
The configured label size does not match the physical roll. Fix the roll dimension first, then the printer configuration, then whatever the software expects.
Direct thermal or thermal transfer for a Singapore shop?
Direct thermal for fast-moving stock and date labels. Thermal transfer if labels sit in sunlight or need to stay scannable for a year or more.
Do I need a label printer if all my products have barcodes already?
Probably not. Scan the manufacturer's EAN-13.
